A man is being hunted by police after a suspected rape attack on a teenage girl in south-west London. 

The attack is alleged to have taken place in the North Place area of Mitcham on Tuesday morning. 

Officers from the Metropolitan Police were called shortly after 7am and the teenage girl is being supported by specialist officers.

Police have released an image of a man they are looking for in connection with the allegation.

A crime scene remains in place and there have not been any arrests at this stage.  

Local officers are carrying out increased patrols in the area, the force said. 

Detective Inspector Laura Semple, of the South West Command Unit, said: ‘The victim and her family are receiving support from specially trained officers.

‘We have released an image of a man we would like to speak to and urge anyone who can help us trace him to contact police immediately.’

The force requested that people be mindful of sharing information on social media which could identify the alleged victim.
