Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? viewers were fuming on Wednesday night after an insensitive joke about the late comedian Sean Lock aired.

Host Jeremy Clarkson was heard telling contestant Jimmy Carr: "The audience aren't clapping for you Jimmy Carr, because they were promised Sean Lock."

The episode was likely filmed before Sean tragically died of cancer earlier this year at the age of 58.

One fan fumed: "Well done ITV. It’s very sensitive of you to include a joke about the late Sean Lock not being able to appear on ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

Another added: "That Sean Lock joke aged badly hasn’t it?"

"Did Clarkson really just say "they were promised Sean Lock" to Jimmy Carr on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ?! Crass as f***!" raged one viewer.

"Sean Lock? When was Who Wants To Be A Millionaire recorded?" asked someone else.

Another viewer asked "Presumably Millionaire was recorded before the sad passing of Sean Lock?"

"Very poorly timed joke about the late Sean Lock on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire just now. Clearly filmed before he passed but could have been cut out of the edit surely?" said one.

"It was a compliment by Clarkson but I think a little insensitive, and would have been no bother just cutting it out" insisted one.

However some fans defended the inclusion.

One insisted: "As I've said elsewhere, Sean would have found that hilarious!"

Another said: "Whether it was filmed before or after his death (I think it's the latter) the point is Sean would have found it funny and Jimmy would know that, hence why it wasn't edited out!"

The game didn't go well for Jimmy after he lost £31,000 when he chose the wrong answer about the land speed record.

He used all of his lifelines and made a guess on the £64,000 question, costing him the £31,000 he'd already gathered.

"So very funny, but thick" quipped Jeremy.
