The Handmaid’s Tale season four is finally here and fans of the dystopian series have been keen to see more. The season three finale saw June (played by Elisabeth Moss) get shot and fans are still waiting to find out what happens next. Channel 4 revealed the new season would air on the network and Express.co.uk has all you need to know.
When is The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 on Channel 4?
The award-winning drama is due to air later this year on Channel 4, following a period of uncertainty amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The series was renewed for a fourth season in July 2019 and filming for the 10-episode season began in March 2020.
After only a few weeks, production was forced to stop due to Covid and it wrapped in February 2021.
Hulu will be airing the fourth season in April this year and it has also renewed the tragic drama for a fifth season.
While no official release date has been provided for Channel 4, it is also likely to be this year.
The Hulu release had been pencilled in for April 28, and previous seasons have aired a few days after the US release.
With this in mind, fans will hopefully have access to the series on Channel 4 by the summer of 2021.
The fourth season will go into more detail about June’s plan to help the children escape to Canada.
Much to the surprise of fans, she had made the recision to remain in Gilead herself.
Moss made her directing debut in the new season and she directed a total of three episodes.
In a recent interview with the Times, she seemed to confirm her character would make it through another season.
She said she would be “offended” if the series was to continue with her character dead.
Moss teased plenty of surprises when it comes to the direction season four is headed.
She hinted June will eventually make her escape, saying: “You can’t just keep June in this place where she’s tortured all the time. It’s boring.”
Actress Moss is on Instagram and she shared the trailer for the upcoming season with the message: “Let freedom reign.”
In the trailer, the radio is turned on and a voice is heard saying: “Global sanctions on Gilead are mounting as the latest wave of violence continues.
“No matter where the war finds you today, just remember, we are still here.”
A search party was sent to find June and stop her from planning any more “atrocities”.
She is heard saying: “We are an army, we don’t hide, we fight,” and she is expected to start the ultimate war.
The upcoming season will also see the return of Ann Dowd as Aunt Lydia, Alexis Bledel as Emily and Bradley Whitford as Commander Joseph Lawrence.
Mckenna Grace, who is known for her roles in Young Sheldon, The Haunting of Hill House and Designated Survivor, will join the cast as Mrs Keyes.
She is the teenage wife of a Commander and she is just as rebellious and intelligent as June.
In the new season, June’s friendships are put to the ultimate test as her quest for freedom consumes her.
She is making a stand as the leader of the rebellion, but it will come at a great cost to her and those she cares about.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 4 is coming soon to Channel 4.
