Mrs Brown's Boys viewers slam 'unfunny' New Year's special and beg BBC to cancel sitcom

MRS Brown's Boys viewers complained the New Year's specials "ruined" 2022.

It’s a Marmite TV show but for some fans of Brendan O’Carroll’s comedy, but the New Year's special left viewers reaching for the remote.

One of the "unfunny" jokes that saw viewers beg the BBC to cancel the series was about a neighbour's murder.

Grandad joked: "There was a murder in the flats last night. A man was beaten to death with a fish."

He continued after a pause: "They think it was Jack the Kipper!"

The January 1 episode saw Mammy battling her New Year's Eve hangover and the crew head to the pub to chat about Winnie's life.

Winnie read aloud from a self-help book: "Don't put yourself in a place where you're disappointed."

Agnes piped up: "Don't have sex," as Winnie went on, "don't exaggerate problems, not everything is as big as you'd expect."

Fans slammed the flagship comedy and demanded it be cancelled.

"2022 was going so well but Mrs Brown's Boys has just come on!" one viewer tweeted.

Another added: "I tuned in to what I thought was [Peaky Blinders] and it turns out sadly it was Mrs Brown and her boys. The worst TV ever – please BBC, stop this!"

Another complained: "Literally the worst show ever – cancel it!"

The New Year's complaints follow a poorly received Christmas special just a week earlier.

The Christmas episode, titled Mammy's Mechanical Merriment, saw Agnes Brown, played by actor Brendan, 66, join a church choir in Finglas.

Meanwhile, Buster – played by Danny O'Carroll -was busy trying to find a Christmas tree, and Dermot, played by Paddy Houlihan, organised a Murder Mystery fundraiser for an outlandish cause to help alcoholic greyhounds.

Agnes was also tasked with starting a Christmas diet by daughter Maria, after she piled on the lockdown pounds.

However, viewers were left laughing for all the wrong reasons.

One wrote: "Wondering if I can find anyone who thinks Mrs Brown’s Boys is remotely funny… #mrsbrownsboys."

Another posted: "Think #mrsbrownsboys has had its day."
