Michelle Heaton shares shocking snap of swollen bloodshot eyes taken just 20 weeks ago as she reflects on alcohol battle

MICHELLE Heaton has shocked fans with a graphic new picture taken when she hit rock bottom just 20 weeks ago.

The Liberty X star admitted earlier this year that she was just days from death following a three-year cocaine and booze binge.

Michelle , 42, was only saved thanks to an intervention from her husband and showbiz friends, including Katie Price, who booked her into a rehab centre.

The mum-of-two is now clean following her four-week stay at The Priory and has marked National Sober Day and National Recovery Month with a stark photograph.

Michelle's snap was only taken 20 weeks ago and it shows her with incredibly puffy and bloodshot eyes, and yellow stains on her T-shirt.

Posting it on Instagram alongside a picture of how she looks today, Michelle said: "This picture is not to shock, it WAS my reality!

"20 weeks ago this was me – Ruined.

"The second is me today – Saved."

Today I am stronger mentally and physically better then I’ve ever been."

Michelle stressed that she wants to help remove the stigma of addiction, adding words of advice and encouragement from 'the national day calendar'.

She added: "Today I am stronger mentally and physically better then I’ve ever been. One day at a time.

"For anyone who needs help with addiction, there is help out there."

Michelle shared links for both Alcoholics Anonymous and the NHS' Getting Help: Addiction page.

The star's fans have heaped Michelle with praise after seeing just how far she has come in 20 weeks.

One told her: "Omg I am so shocked at your first photo, it looks nothing like you, I am so pleased for you & your family that you have come out the other side, and I know it’s still going to be hard for you. But well done."

Another added: "Amazing. You have done so brilliantly. So glad you’re ok now."

A third said: "You are a hero and an inspiration. Stay strong, keep going xx."

DAYS FROM DEATH

In May, Michelle – who is married to husband Hugh Hanley – bravely spoke out about her battle with drink and drugs.

Speaking to The Sun just 36 hours after leaving rehab, Michelle said she had been downing up to two bottles of wine and a bottle of vodka virtually every day since 2018, and snorting cocaine.

She was staring death in the face but wouldn’t accept it until she went into rehab.

Michelle recalls: “There was a moment when I said, ‘I’m not going’. My best friend kicked off at me and said, ‘Michelle — you’re dying’.

“It was a joint effort from all my very dear friends who wanted me to live."

In The Priory she was told that a healthy level of the enzyme GGT in the blood — which indicates how damaged a person’s liver is — was 30 or less. Hers stood at 2,500.

She said: “They had never seen a girl come in who registered that high. A therapist said to me, ‘We didn’t know if you were going to make it’.”
