Love Island star Jake Cornish was missing from Sunday's reunion on Aftersun due to illness.
During the episode, the 24 year old water engineer's ex Liberty Poole appeared on the show and spoke about their relationship, revealing that in terms of love it is the "end of their journey".
At the start of the episode, host Laura Whitmore revealed that Jake would not be joining his fellow Islanders as she wished him a speedy recovery.
Laura, 36, said: "So, sadly Jake can't be with us this evening as he isn't feeling very well. Get well soon and sending you lots of love."
Later during the episode, it showed Jake and Liberty, 22, reunite in a pre-recorded segment as they spoke about their relationship since leaving the villa.
Liberty decided to end her romance with Jake just days before the final, saying: "I just don't feel like you love me for me and I want someone who loves me for me."
During the pre-recorded reunion, the former Islander confronted Jake for not making any effort to make it "work properly".
Jake said: "How are things going, obviously, you're a busy girl. FaceTimed you a couple of times…" to which Liberty corrected him with: "Once. It was once."
Liberty admitted that she was "nervous" to see him, saying: "It's hard because obviously I do still have feelings for you but I just think at the time, it wasn't like working. I just feel like there hasn't been effort made to make it work properly."
Jake then added: "Even if we were together, it wouldn't work because I am so busy…"
Liberty then confronted him again, saying: "Kaz and Tyler, and everyone else are really busy, they can still make time for each other."
Jake responded with: "I'm only saying what you said to me. We always say, live in the moment, no regrets. This and that, that's how you felt, that's how I felt… obviously we're not together."
Liberty added: "At the moment, we're going our separate ways and I always say as well, what's meant to be, will be, and for now, obviously, it's meant to be that we're not. I wish you all the best for the future and that you excel in everything that you do."
To which Jake replied: "Yeah, and you, you're going to smash it. Onwards and upwards, baby!"
Speaking after the pre-recorded segment, host Laura admitted that things seemed "tense" as she then spoke to Liberty live in the studio.
Liberty insisted that she is "really good" and just "focusing on herself", adding: "I think I definitely did the right thing."
Talking about her reunion with Jake, she continued: "I just think we did the right thing in us going our separate ways and I feel like we're both in happier places now because of that.
"He seems a lot happier and I know that I'm a lot happier, so we've done the right thing."

Asked if they would meet again as friends, Liberty continued: "Well obviously we share the same friends and have similar friendship groups, obviously you make friends from being on Love Island. So I will probably see him around.
"Happy to be mutual, civil with him but I think as far as love goes… that's the end of our journey."
Liberty added that she is "living her best life" and that she has a lot of exciting things coming up.
