Loki’s Tom Hiddleston has been spotted battling torrential rain with Owen Wilson in the first on set pictures of the upcoming Disney+ series.
The Marvel star confirmed that filming was about to begin in August last year, where we pictured him returning to his green superhero attire.
However, brand new pictures taken in Atlanta, show the 39-year-old dressed in beige trousers and a matching brown coat as he braced the storm while surrounded by what appears to be the Time Variance Authority – if recent rumours that Owen’s mysterious character is somehow linked to the TVA prove to be true.
But as we’re missing any signs of his notorious costume, it appears the show could well be taking a leaf out of Thor’s book, as Sophia Di Martino can be seen in similar get-up to Loki’s in Thor: Ragnarok, meaning we could have a potential Lady Loki on our hands?
For context, the next installment of the Thor franchise will see Natalie Portman take on the role of a female Thor, who goes by the name: Mighty Thor.
And while the SWAT team walks alongside Hiddleston in the latest snaps, he’s also joined by Owen who is in the same outfit as the Loki star, only with his hood up tight around his head.
The cast has remained tight-lipped over the upcoming series, which was teased in a three-second-clip during the Marvel Super Bowl advert this year, seeing Hiddleston all done up as Loki as he told viewers at home: ‘I’m going to burn this place to the ground.’
The Hollywood Reporter, however, has teased a potential storyline, which would focus on the God of Mischief’s travels throughout key moments of human history.
We last saw Loki savagely being killed off by Thanos in the 2018 movie, Avengers: Infinity War – so a little bit of time travel will see him land right back on the silver screen.
The series was announced as part of an impressive line-up for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was showcased at the 2019 San Diego Comic Con.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Tom said: ‘Loki will start at the top of next year. He’s such a classical character. [Thor and Loki], they’re from Norse myths – they have a kind of gravitas to them.’
It was recently reported that the show would also be making MCU history by casting its very first transgender character in the form of Sera.
In January this year, The Illuminerdi said the newcomer would be a major supporting character and would have the potential to make appearances in films as well.
This means that Sera would be the first transgender character in a significant role within the universe, should the claims be true.
Sera was one of the Anchorites, the rare and wingless male Angels of Heven who were kept inside by the Hierophants to pray for the dead Angels who had no soul.
She was the only Anchorites who identified as a woman and exists very much in Thor’s world, with the next Thor film, Love And Thunder, scheduled for a 2021 release.
There is no confirmed release date for the Loki series, for now. However, it is rumoured to arrive on Disney+ in spring 2021.
