I'm A Celebrity stars locked in cages as they face first Bushtucker Trial

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here is about to kick off with a bang, with the stars diving straight into their first Bushtucker Trial.

The 10 celebs will quickly get acquainted with some castle critters (Welsh cousins of the Aussie jungle critters, we assume), with their first trial, Gates Of Hell.

The stars are faced with a huge gatehouse like structure in front of Gwrych Castle, met by hosts Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly.

They’re locked into cages and will have to work as a team to pass stars from one end to the other, either using their hands or a magnet.

Ant and Dec warn them to ‘expect the unexpected’ and, as with every trial, they won’t be alone in there.

Informed that they do have the option to say no to the trial (but remain on a diet of rice and beans), Giovanna Fletcher quipped: ‘Imagine if we said no,’ with Dec responding: ‘It would be a very short show.’

Shane Richie, Vernon Kay, AJ Pritchard, Beverley Callard, Hollie Arnold, Jessica Plummer, Mo Farah, Jordan North, and Victoria Derbyshire all join Giovanna in the trial, with the celebs facing their fears and beginning their castle journey.

As the first episode nears, Ant and Dec have also given us a sneak-peek into the castle, where all the action is set to happen.

In the video, Ant beckons the camera in, welcoming viewers ‘for exclusive access to our set and the castle’. But Dec – the more sensible of the two – adds that the majority of the set is ‘censored’ saying that ‘you can’t actually see anything before the show goes on air’.

However, that doesn’t stop us from catching a quick glimpse of the table where Ant and Dec will be presenting during the series, complete with a mini treasure chest, a rusty set of keys and a pair of goblets.

In the background behind them, Gwrych Castle can be seen outside the window, lit up against the dark night sky.

Before the show’s launch, ITV also shared some photographs from inside the castle, showing the celebrities’ living quarters (in the freezing cold), the ‘privy’, which has replaced the ‘dunny’, and the medieval shower room, instead of an Australian waterfall.

Things might be very different this year, but we’re so ready for our I’m A Celeb fix.

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! begins Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
