HRVY’s chances of winning Strictly in jeopardy as ‘knees are in agony’ ahead of final

Strictly: Janette Manrara praises HRVY on his scores of ten

HRVY, 21, and his professional dance partner Janette Manrara, 37, will take to the dance floor for the final time tonight as they perform their Jive, Show Dance, and American Smooth in the hopes of securing votes from viewers to be crowned this year’s Strictly Come Dancing champions. However, HRVY’s chances of lifting the Glitterball Trophy could be in jeopardy as he revealed his body is in “agony” from pushing himself so much.

Speaking ahead of the final, he explained: “It’s a really weird thing and I’m doing what my dad and grandad do which I really hate, every times I get up and down I [wince].

“I make noises. I hate that. It’s just because my body and my knees are in agony.”

Janette added she has been pushing HRVY each week to improve and he’s spent a lot of time reviewing his performances.

Reflecting on their Charleston in the semi-final, she said: “I was really, really grateful Shirley [Ballas] and Motsi [Mabuse] appreciated that I do push HRVY.

“You could come in with someone like HRVY who has the talent he has and just take an easy route but I think because of week one and the Jive we did, I felt the pressure massively as a choreographer and a teacher to make sure every week we came back with something just as incredible if not, hopefully even more incredible than the week before.

“I have many, many sleepless nights, many hours watching the routine a thousand times over again.

“Poor HRVY has been right there with me every day pushing through exhaustion, just because you do want to deliver the best possible version of the dance on Saturday.”

The pair will be performing their Jive again and HRVY has high hopes they can get a perfect score this time.

“I set myself an expectation because I was like, ‘Wow I to a nine in the first week!’” he told press including Express.co.uk.

“So I got in my head a little bit over the weeks, I was like, ‘I need to get as good as I did the first week,’ which obviously wasn’t going to be the case, especially with ballroom.

“But this time around, I really want to get the same scores, hopefully, if not a bit higher. I don’t want to go backwards!”

Fortunately, HRVY is fairly confident about their training for the final.

“It’s been alright because we have done the Jive and we’ve done the American Smooth, so it’s more about going over them again and remembering the steps a little bit and making sure it’s cleaner,” he explained.

“But the Show Dance is all new dance basically and it’s a lot.

“We’ve put everything we can into 90 seconds to the point where we get to certain sections and I have to stop. I can’t do it anymore than I am doing.”

HRVY went on to admit while he would love to win, he can’t predict who will lift the coveted trophy.

“This is anyone’s game,” he shared. “I have been speaking about this with my family and none of us can guess who is going to win.

“There are so many different reasons why everyone deserves to win.”

YouTube star HRVY is currently attracting the bulk of support to be the one who lifts the Glitterball Trophy this weekend and be crowned the King of the dance floor.

HRVY scored a total of 53 points for his Charleston and Rumba last weekend with his odds cut into 7/4 from 11/4 but further support has meant the popular singer is now 13/8 with BoyleSports to become the champion.

Sarah Kinsella, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “HRVY is the latest celebrity being backed to lift the Glitterball this weekend with his odds now at 13/8 from 7/4. Bill Bailey’s grip on favouritism is strengthening however after we cut him into 4/6 from even money to be the last competitor standing while Maisie Smith is 6/1 from 9/1. It’s going to be a great final.”

Strictly Come Dancing Final airs tonight on BBC One at 6pm.
