This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby was stunned as she was offered a new on-screen job on ITV as she hosted the show alongside Phillip Schofield.

She and Phil spoke to Midsomer Murders stars Neil Dudgeon and Nick Hendrix, who play DCI John Barnaby and DS Jamie Winter about the latest series of the show.

The beloved ITV drama is returning to screens Sunday 21 March for the 22nd series, and the pair teased what viewers could expect from the latest season.

But it looks like viewers will get more than they bargained for, as the pair excitedly offered Holly a role on the show during their interview.

As Phillip told Hollt that there was something she didn’t know, Neil stepped in and said: "We’ve all had a big talk about who we want to appear on Midsomer, and we decided we want Holly Willoughby to appear in an episode of Midsomer Murders very soon.

"I’ve been speaking to people upstairs and they’ve been speaking to your people.

"Holly please, I am emboldened here to offer you a role in Midsomer Murders."

Holly excitedly gave a loud yes as she teared up in shock, before saying: "I’ve seen every episode since it started way back when. Are you serious?

"I mean, you’re going to have to kill me off really quickly as I’m terrible at acting."

The actors replied: "That’s never held us back in Midsomer!"

The pair also promised that Holly would be getting a substantial part in an episode, with the presenter either getting killed or being a murderer "or something".

Holly quickly started offering up her suggestions about how she could be killed, asking: "Can I die by eating chocolate?

"Because I saw an episode where somebody died by eating chocolate and I was like, 'that’s the way to go.'"

Neil replied: "You can be eaten by badgers or something."

Nick chipped in: "Yes, suggestions, if there’s a particular way that you want to go, we can do it."

Viewers will have to wait and see what Holly's role will entail, as the actors refused to give away any spoilers.

This Morning continues tomorrow at 10am on ITV.
