Geri Horner welcomes adorable Shih Tzu and reveals dogs make everything alright

The festive season is upon us, and former Spice Girl Geri Horner has given herself an early Christmas present in the form of an adorable fluff-ball called Daisy!

Fans of Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs will see the singer fall in love with the gorgeous Shih Tzu in this week’s episode of the hit ITV show, and take her in after a stint of her being looked after by the staff at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

When we first meet Daisy, who had been given up by her previous owners, we realise she hasn’t had the easiest start in life and has a serious problem with her liver that requires an operation.

We see an emotional Paul, who has got very attached to her and refers to her as “the business”, get extremely nervous about the outcome of the procedure after learning that there’s a 1 in 20 chance that she won’t survive it. "It’s sad when you look at her, she’s such a little cute thing,” he says.

Despite his feelings for the poorly pup, Paul realises that he can't take on yet another pet with health issues, as he already has a huge number of animals at home. But luckily he has a friend who might….

Thankfully Daisy comes through the op stronger than ever, and dog-mad Geri is totally unperturbed by the pup’s health issues and can’t wait to welcome her into the family.

Geri says, “I’m really excited to meet Daisy because every time you get a new dog in your life it’s like a new chapter. And they become part of a family. I’ve got such a great relationship with Battersea Dogs Home. They gave me my first dog, Harry.”

She explains, “She (Daisy) did have medical problems, some people would feel a bit anxious about taking on a dog like that. But I think we’ve got enough love in our hearts to welcome and look after her. No matter what is going on in your day, you see a beautiful spirit in a furry coat and it makes everything alright.”

Geri and her four year old Monty, her son with husband Christian Horner, certainly look like people who have a lot of love to give when Daisy arrives to live with them, and the star can’t stop gushing over her new addition.

“Here she comes! Oh my god! Hello darling. You’re gorgeous!”, she says as Daisy jumps all over them. At one point, dog lover Geri – who’s also mum to daughter Bluebell, 15 – even refers to herself as Barbara Woodhouse (the legendary dog trainer who became a TV regular in the 1980s) as she tells Daisy to “sit”. We’re sure she’ll be getting Daisy to do what she wants (what she really, really wants!) in no time….

Paul O'Grady: For The Love of Dogs, ITV, starts Wed 24th Nov at 8pm
