Emmerdale star Matthew Wolfenden has admitted that he fears his character David Metcalfe could be murdered next.

Only recently on the ITV soap, Meena Jutla murdered Leanna Cavanagh, with her death ruled as "accidental" by police, and the evil nurse has been secretly terrorising her boyfriend David and those closest to him ever since.

While on Monday's episode, David woke up after he was shot by Russ last week as he attempted to save Victoria Sugden and Wendy Posner from the hostage situation.

Yet despite his character surviving the recent gun siege, actor Matthew has feared that David could be murdered next as "you can never rest on your laurels" in soap land.

Talking to the Mirror, Matthew said that he is filming some of the most "dramatic scenes I’ve ever been involved in".

He added: "I adore playing David and to be involved in this siege is brilliant.

"But if there is a murderer running around the village, you can never rest on your laurels and of course you wonder whether it’s going be you next."

It comes after Matthew teased that there will be four huge stunts involving Meena in upcoming scenes.

Talking on Monday's Loose Women, Matthew, 41, who plays David, revealed that he has been left covered in "bruises and cuts" following the explosive filming.

Talking about what is coming up on Emmerdale, he said: "David does recover and then we have a huge week coming up, which we're filming at the moment, which has something to do with Meena, that's all I can say."

Asked to elaborate by the Loose Women panellists, Matthew teased: "There's four big stunts that happen over that week. We’ve just been filming that over the last month, and over the week that it’s going to be onscreen there’s four huge stunts.

"Two of them in particular have never ever been done before on a soap, so it's been a massive block for us and I'm covered in bruises and cuts and it's been fantastic.

"So watch out for that! That's in about five to six weeks time, so watch out for that!"

And due to the Emmerdale village's new serial killer Meena, Matthew joked that none of the cast want to be killed off.

He quipped: "We’re all very polite to the boss because we never know who’s going to be killed off next!"
