After its premiere on Netflix in 2020, Bridgerton quickly became an international sensation which completely smashed the platforms viewership records – becoming Netflix biggest series ever. With the confirmation of season two announced a month after its initial release, Penelope Featherington star Nicola Coughlan finally shared a huge filming update.
In an interview with Radio Times on October 22, the actress revealed she had wrapped filming for her scenes in season two.
She shared she was on her “final week of filming” and is expected to completely wrap this Saturday.
Nicola revealed: “I’m actually in my final week of shooting Bridgerton right now, so I’m literally on the way to set right now.
“I’m shooting all this like, big, heavy, dramatic stuff for the finale at the moment, and I wrap on 4:30 am on Saturday,” she explained.
Fans will remember the jaw-dropping moment Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) was revealed as Lady Whistledown in the season finale.
She was first introduced as a sweet-natured young woman, trying to navigate her crush for her best friend’s older brother Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton).
However, viewers saw a different side to her after the shock revelation identified her as the person behind the pages of the scandalous gossip column.
As Lady Whistledown was voiced by Julia Andrew, viewers had no clue until the season finale and better yet the people on screen are none the wiser.
Nicola went on to share, season two will show more of Lady Whistedowns secret life: “That final moment of series one was definitely a peek into her life.
“I think in series two you kind of see how the sausage gets made and all that’s happening,” she added.
“I felt very lucky when I got given the script to series two, like when you’re an actor in a show already and they’ve just given me so much good stuff.”
The actress dropped a huge hint and said fans will see the “repercussion” of her character’s two-facedness.
Nicola explained it could potentially destroy all her personal relationships, including that of Colin Bridgerton, who she has mysteriously got “closer” to in season two.
After all the whole, unbeknownst to him, she was the whole reason he was able to break things off with her distant cousin Marina Thompson (Ruby Baker).
In season one, they were deep in love and on the verge of getting engaged until she published news exposing Marina to be pregnant with George’s baby.
Marina planned to run away and marry Colin before news of her pregnancy was revealed.
Instead, it was published by Lady Whistledown and Colin broke up with her for trying to deceive him.
However, before Penelope could confess her love for him, Colin decided to backpack across Europe and achieve his ambition.
With the revelation of Penelope and Colin’s budding friendship, fans will soon get to see how it came to be.
Viewers can also look forward to watching the repercussions of Penelope being Lady Whistledown and how it gets exposed.
Bridgerton season 1 is streaming on Netflix now.
