Viewers were left unimpressed on Sunday night after a rather simple portrait was valued at an extraordinarily high price on BBC's Antiques Roadshow.

Specialist in modern art, Frances Christie analysed the framed paining by Indian artist Francis Newton Souza and questioned the guest who bought the item in about the unusual art piece.

The guest explained to Frances that the picture was only purchased for around £50 during the 70s and it belonged to his mother who recently passed away.

But to his surprise after much speculation, Frances said the painting is now worth "in the region of £7,000-10,000."

Despite the good news viewers at home were in disbelief as they believed the art was worth far less.

Taking to Twitter, fans aired their thoughts on the unusual picture.

One fan penned: "What a total load of shite #antiquesroadshow #souza I cannot believe that is called art!"

Another chimed: "Beautiful picture?? Seriously?? My son did better when he was two!"

A third quipped: "Getting my 5-yr old to sketch something up. £10k for that!"

While a fourth fan who was also take aback by the value said: "£7,000-£10,000! Fetch me my crayons."

Talking more about the portrait, specialist Frances said: "So I love that it's a portrait of a man and the way he's drawn out his features of this person. He's really elongated the nose and he's sculptured the jaw.

She added: "And actually he's used a knife to add the detail in the man's stubble.

"It looks so simple the way he put it together, it's just a really striking image."

But while Frances expressed her passion for the painting to her guest, viewers at became fairly distracted by the owner's attire.

Taking to Twitter again, viewers aired their thought's on the gentlemen's bright choice of clothes.

One fan said: "Blimey. What a start! That is some shirt, tie and waistcoat combination. He can't look in the mirror through a fear of getting a headache."

Another commented: "That shirt, tie & waistcoat combination is a migraine!"

While a third tweeted: "Jeez that man loves his colourful clothes."
