As fans know, Taylor Swift loves her surprise releases. On April 7, just days before her re-recorded album Fearless (Taylor’s Version) drops, Swift released “Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault).”
The song is one of the six new “From the Vault” tracks that will be featured on Fearless (Taylor’s Version), which will be released on April 9.
Taylor Swift has six ‘From the Vault’ songs
So far, Swift has released three songs from Fearless (Taylor’s Version): “Love Story (Taylor’s Version),” “You All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault) (Featuring Maren Morris),” and “Mr. Perfectly Fine (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault).”
Leading up to the release of Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Swift teased the “From the Vault” songs. She released “You All Over Me (Featuring Maren Morris)” as a single on March 25.
On April 2, Swift released a video of anagrams containing the titles of the “From the Vault” songs for fans to solve. The next day on April 3, Swift revealed the track’s titles: “You All Over Me (featuring Maren Morris),” “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” “We Were Happy,” “That’s When (featuring Keith Urban),” “Don’t You,” and “Bye Bye Baby.”
“I’m really honored that @KeithUrban is a part of this project, duetting on That’s When and singing harmonies on We Were Happy. I was his opening act during the Fearless album era and his music has inspired me endlessly,” Swift tweeted.
Taylor Swift released ‘Mr. Perfectly Fine’ as a surprise
With Swift, fans know to expect the unexpected. Out of the blue on April 7, Swift announced that she decided to drop “Mr. Perfectly Fine.” On social media, she poked fun at herself for causing chaos by dropping the “From the Vault” song.
“Me in 2020: life is chill, writing songs based in fiction to avoid drama, feeling pretty grown up,” she tweeted. “My 2008 music from the vault, in a goblin voice: ‘REELEEEEEEASE MR PERFECTLY FIIIIIIINE.’”
In addition to releasing the digital track, Swift released a lyric video for the song on YouTube. Being a Swift song, “Mr. Perfectly Fine” has impossibly catchy lyrics, and it fits right in with the Fearless era.
“And I never got past what you put me through / But it’s wonderful to see that it never phased you / Hello, Mr. perfectly fine / How’s your heart after breaking mine?” Swift sings.
Why ‘Fearless (Taylor’s Version)’ has new songs
Swift announced that Fearless would be the first of her albums to be re-recorded and released on Good Morning America on Feb. 11. The singer-songwriter also shared a letter on social media about her decision to re-record Fearless.
On why she included six additional songs, Swift wrote:
“Artists should own their own work for so many reasons, but the most screaming obvious one is that the artist is the only one who really *knows* that body of work. For example, only I know which songs I wrote that almost made it on the Fearless album. Songs I absolutely adored, but were held back for different reasons (don’t want too many breakup songs, don’t want too maNy down tempo songs, can’t fit that many songs on a physical CD). Those reasons seem unnecessary now. I’ve decided I want you to have the whole story, see the entire vivid picture, and let you into the entire dreamscape that is my Fearless album.”
Fearless (Taylor’s Version) will feature 26 songs including the six “From the Vault” songs and will be released on April 9.
