Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi announced their engagement last September. Since then, the couple are sure to have been busy making plans for the big day. What does their body language show ahead of the royal wedding?
- Princess Beatrice will do key thing different from Kate and Meghan
Princess Beatrice is set to get married on Friday, May 29 this year The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace, a statement from the Palace has confirmed.
Since announcing their engagement, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo have been spotted out together a couple of times.
Their body language has revealed signs of tension as they prepare for the big day, body language expert Judi James has said.
She told Express.co.uk: “Like any soon-to-be-married couple there are some body language cues here to suggest a build-up of tension prior to the big day.
“In Beatrice and Edoardo’s case there must also be the added pressure of the ‘Andrew Effect’ as the dramas involving her father threaten to eclipse an otherwise happy event.”
Although there could be many reasons for the tension, the expert said the Princess first appeared to look worried shortly after announcing their engagement.
Analysing pictures from shortly after the announcement was made compared to now, Judi commented on the changing body language of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo.
She explained: “While Beatrice almost peeps around her fiancé it’s Edoardo communicating with the cameras via a body language tie-sign, widening his eyes and raising his brows to suggest a laid-back, good-humoured but ever-so-slightly superior approach.
“There are some hints of tension from Beatrice even in this early stage though, with her free hand being balled into a fist.”
During the early outing, Edoardo appeared confident while Princess Beatrice showed more signs of being worried.
However, their body language seemed to become more in sync with both Princess Beatrice and Edoardo looking tense, according to the expert.
Judi added: “In the later photos there is more of a status balance visible, with Beatrice striding out alongside her fiancé, although her upwardly-hunched shoulders suggest the tension is still there and perhaps increasing.

“Beatrice’s facial expression also looks tense here and at one point she touches her head in a partial cut-off gesture, suggesting a desire to hide or avoid the photographers.
“Edoardo’s arm position suggests some tension might be building in him too by this stage.
“This is as his arms was held rather rigidly at his sides rather than holding Beatrice’s hand or slipping an arm around her waist in a more natural and relaxed-looking PDA.”
While there seemed to be growing tensions in the body language of both the royals, it is likely this is due to the normal stresses of planning a wedding.
The wedding date was announced last month in a statement from the palace.
It read: “The wedding of HRH Princess Beatrice of York and Mr. Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi will take place on Friday 29 May 2020. The couple became engaged in Italy in September 2019.
“Her Majesty The Queen has kindly given permission for the ceremony to take place at The Chapel Royal, St James’s Palace.
“The ceremony will be followed by a private reception, given by The Queen, in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.”
