Following ATTEMPT‘s “-isms” Fall/Winter 2021 collection, the Chinese label has officially unveiled its Spring/Summer 2022 “BLACK SWAN” collection inspired by the psychological horror film of the same name.
ATTEMPT references Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s depiction of self-searching in the film: “Black swan” serves as a metaphor for rebellion, contradiction, loneliness, and optimism, which are qualities of human nature that propel the desire to find the entirety of the self, a process not only involving joy and hope but inevitably, pain and confusion. In the movie, the conflict between black and white swan translates to one’s inner pursuit of self-acceptance and, ultimately, self-discovery. The way one dresses also becomes a medium to express self-reconciliation with one’s different personalities.
The latest season expresses ATTEMPT’s brand image through a series of “personality uniforms” that see traditional silhouettes with hidden designs to achieve a subtle contrast and balance between the “restrained” and the “unbridled” personalities. While there is an emphasis on patchwork, the collection takes a careful approach to avoid cumbersome structures in its layering and use of material. Some standout pieces include a white/transparent long-sleeved shirt with symmetrical details and a black long-sleeved shirt with distorted buttons.
ATTEMPT’s Spring/Summer 2022 “BLACK SWAN” collection will be on sale from January 9. Look out for more on the official release on the ATTEMPT website.
