The service, called Express Delivery, is being further expanded after a successful trial earlier this year. Asda initially trialled the service back in June and first orders had surpassed the supermarket’s expectations.

Demand for home delivery has increased in the last year, with many supermarkets expanding their services.

Asda has many home delivery options, including their recent roll out of its Express Delivery service.

The service offers customers home delivery within just one-hour of ordering.

It is now available at 96 Asda stores across the country.

The firm’s vice president of online grocery, Simon Gregg said slots had regularly sold out at some of its pilot stores.

He said: “We are rolling out our Express Delivery service to almost 100 stores after a trial showed there was a clear gap in the market for a speedy delivery service offering our full online product range for delivery within one hour.

“As the only grocer to offer this service, we have seen a significant number of customers access this option, with slots regularly selling out at our pilot stores.

“We anticipate more demand for this flexible service now that many of our customers have returned to their place of work and children are back at school.”

The service gives shoppers access to the supermarket’s full range of more than 30,000 products for delivery.

Customers must live within three miles of a participating store to be eligible for the speedy service.

When ordering, up to 70 items can be delivered at any one time from Asda’s grocery range.

Although there is no minimum spend required, a flat rate of £8.50 must be paid for the delivery.

Some shoppers have expressed their concerns about the delivery charge.

Taking to Twitter, one customer, Gary Hambidge, wrote: “£8.50 is a joke, it doesn’t cost that in a taxi to my local branch and back.”

Another person, Kim Thotz, said: “That is quite the delivery charge!”

One shopper, Alison Lister, tweeted: “I would pay that if it was guaranteed within the hour, great initiative.”

Customers can also track their orders live so they know when to expect their groceries.

The news comes after Asda recently announced it would be expanding its partnership with Uber Eats to more than 300 stores.

Customers can order food to their homes in as little as 30 minutes.
