Miley Cyrus has had a number of notable romances over the years, and her relationship with Cody Simpson seemed like it was truly meant to be. Cyrus dated Simpson after divorcing husband Liam Hemsworth, and she often talked about how her relationship with Simpson felt real and true compared to her past romances. Unfortunately, the couple couldn’t make things work. But they remained friendly after breaking up.
It looks like the friendly demeanor is over now, though. Current evidence suggests Cyrus and Simpson are on bad terms. Here’s what’s going on.
Miley Cyrus and Cody Simpson were on good terms post-breakup
Cyrus and Simpson were all about each other when they first started dating. The exes were friends for years before getting flirty, and they appeared to be a much better fit than Cyrus and Hemsworth. Unfortunately, after 10 months of dating, Cyrus and Simpson’s flame started to die out.
“Cody felt like he was in a different place and wanted to be single,” a source told E! News, according to Elle. “Miley started to get busy working on new music and their relationship fizzled out. Nothing bad happened, and they still respect each other.” The source then noted that Cyrus wanted to be “single for awhile” following the split, and Simpson wanted to party more and hang out with friends.
“Not many people knew Miley and Cody officially split because they are still good friends,” the source added. “They have remained in touch but felt their relationship came to an end.”
Cyrus confirmed she and Simpson were still friends post-split. “Don’t make it some drama story if next week we’re out hanging out or getting pizza,” she explained via Instagram Live. “We’ve been friends for 10 years and we’re gonna continue to be friends.”
Simpson and Cyrus unfollowed each other on social media
While Simpson and Cyrus appeared to be friendly after their relationship ended, it seems there may be more than meets the eye. Simpson was spotted out with a new woman, and he unfollowed Cyrus on social media, Elle reports. Not only that, but it seems Cyrus also unfollowed Simpson after.
The drama doesn’t stop there. It looks like Cyrus and Simpson have also taken down most of their photos of each other on Instagram. Simpson did appear to leave a video up from Cyrus’ birthday in November 2019, though.
As for Cyrus’ Instagram, there doesn’t appear to be any evidence that she and Simpson dated. She’s focusing heavily on her career, and most of her posts are about her music.
Simpson was spotted getting close with a new woman
So, what could’ve prompted the unfollowing on social media and the deletion of old photos? It seems Simpson’s rumored new relationship may be the cause. Daily Mail reports in November 2020, Simpson was seen cozying up to a blonde woman in Malibu.
As for Cyrus, she’s happy living the single life. And she’s spoken to People about how she deals with heartbreak. “I’m a very logical person,” she said in August 2020. “And I really try to not get lost in emotion, because our emotion lies to us. Our emotion sometimes makes us believe that every thought that we think is real.”
In another interview, Cyrus mentioned she believes the guys she’s broken up with find her unemotional — but she thinks she’s actually become more emotional as she’s grown up.
Perhaps Simpson and Cyrus are actually still friends despite the Instagram debacle. We’ll wait and see if they continue to hang out in the future.
