TV and radio presenter Richard Bacon had to explain why he left Blue Peter to a fellow guest during a television appearance last night. The 45-year-old was on Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable along with Judi Love and Jimmy Carr.
Richard found fame as the 24th presenter on children’s television show Blue Peter in 1997.
However, the following year, he had his contract terminated.
“Why did you leave? What happened?” Judy innocently asked Richard.
“I got fired for punctuality,” Richard replied, before adding, “Because if you take a lot of coke you’re always late for things.”
Following his dismissal, rumours circulated that he had snorted cocaine off the back of one of the tortoises that appeared on Blue Peter.
“Do you remember Fred and Frieda the tortoises on Blue Peter? Big white lines,” Mel joked.
“What he gave them coke?” a shocked Judi asked.
“I didn’t give any tortoises coke,” Richard clarified.
“So I got fired for taking drugs,” he admitted.
Mel’s new programme, which airs on Dave, sees celebrities try to convince the former The Great British Bake Off host that they are the most unforgivable person in the room.
They do this by confessing to their most outrageous sins, lies and questionable behaviour.
During his stint on the programme, Richard was confronted by his mother after confessing to a story from his teenage years.

The presenter revealed that he set the alarms off in his family’s summer house in the middle of the night, while trying to seduce his girlfriend.
Richard joked that his mother had still not forgiven him.
On last week’s episode of the same show, Graham Norton admitted that he underwent major surgery instead of confessing to a lie that he had told his parents.
When asked to share an “original sin,” he told the following story.
Graham said that when he was seven or eight he pretended to be ill so he didn’t have to go to school.
However, his mum took him straight to the doctor for a check up.
“The doctor’s examining me and I’m going, ‘Ow!’ I thought he was going to tell my mother there was nothing wrong with me and I was in such trouble,” Graham informed the host.
“But he told me I had something called appendicitis and next week I’d be going to hospital to have my appendix out.”
“I then thought I was really f****d because either I have an operation I don’t need or I tell the doctor there’s nothing wrong with me and there will be two very angry adults.
“So I had the operation!” he confessed.
The 57-year-old admitted that he had only just owned up to his mother.
