Strictly: Bill Bailey and Oti Mabuse collapse after judges' scores

Oti Mabuse, 30, praised former Strictly Come Dancing winner Joe McFadden for his efforts in becoming the eldest winner on the BBC competition in 2017. Since the final of the 2020 series, Oti and her celebrity partner Bill Bailey were crowned the winners of this year’s show, making the 55-year-old comedian the oldest contestant to now have ever won the dance program.

But Joe wasn’t too bothered by being knocked from his post and sent out a loving tweet applauding Bill for his success.

“Very happy to hand over the mantle of oldest winner to @BillBailey!” the Holby City actor wrote on Twitter.

“Congratulations to him and @OtiMabuse. Very worthy winners, congratulations.”

Joe was 42-years-old when he won the show alongside professional dancer Katya Jones, scoring four perfect 10s for their Charleston.

And Oti was more than grateful for the love shared by the actor, as she responded with a touching tribute to all the older stars who have taken part in the show.

“Yes to the older gentlemen both you @mrjoemcfadden and Chris,” she replied.

“You still have that trophy and no one can take that away from you.”

Following their win, Bill left Oti in tears after posting a heartfelt tweet thanking the public for voting them.

The comedian went on to give high praise to his dance partner, as he referred to her as “one of the most inspirational people” he has ever met.

Bill typed: “A massive thank you to everyone who supported us for #Strictly2020 and to all those of you who voted.

“This win means a huge amount to me and my amazing teacher @OtiMabuse. I am thrilled for her.

“She is one of the most inspiring people I have ever met. All power to you OM,” he added.

The dancer was overwhelmed with emotion following the sweet post, and responded that she was grateful for having been partnered with him.

Oti typed back: “Bill, I thought I had finished crying.

“Thank you for giving me something I thought I’d lost, for showing me your truth, working hard and being the absolute best student anyone could ask for.”

The Strictly final isn’t the last time Oti will be on our screens this year.

She will appear on Michael McIntyre’s celebrity edition of The Wheel, alongside contestants Holly Willoughby and Alan Carr.

Viewers will watch them each compete to win a cash prize for the charity of their choice, with fellow celebs Alexander Armstrong, Christopher Biggins, Clare Balding, Howard Donald, the Rev Kate Bottley, Olly Smith and Ainsley Harriott on hand to help to answer questions on topics ranging from Christmas dinner to panto.

The Wheel festive special airs this evening at 6pm on BBC One.
