The past year has been incredibly disruptive for everybody, but if nothing else it’s produced some seriously strange celebrity pairings. Top of the list, right behind Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox, are Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles. The actress turned director has been engaged to fellow actor and father of her two children, Jason Sudeikis, for the best part of a decade, so their shock split was already a major head-turner. The fact Wilde moved on with the former One Direction star only added to the weirdness.
According to Page Six, the Booksmart director and Saturday Night Live alum called off their engagement in September, with a source subsequently confirming Styles was the reason behind their separation. Earlier this week, Wilde moved her stuff out the home she previously shared with her ex and into Styles’s place instead. Although the new couple has been spotted together on several occasions, they have remained tight-lipped about their relationship. That is, until now, with Wilde finally opening up somewhat.
The director is very enamored with her leading man
Wilde and Styles met on the set of her sophomore feature, Don’t Worry Darling, which wrapped shooting last weekend. The former One Direction star memorably took over from Shia LaBeouf. Although Deadline reported at the time that the change came about due to “scheduling conflicts,” it later transpired that LaBeouf was fired over his bad behavior. As Wilde revealed in an interview with Variety, she has a strict “no a[**]holes policy” on set, which caused her to get rid of the actor just a few months before he was sued for sexual and emotional abuse by former girlfriend, FKA Twigs. Thankfully, it seems Styles has been an absolute dream to work with. His director and rumored girlfriend took to Instagram to praise the Dunkirk star for, first and foremost, allowing “a woman to hold the spotlight,” admitting it’s “harrrrrd to find actors who recognize why it might be worth it.”
Alongside a stunning monochrome shot of the British actor riding in a classic car with the top down, Wilde opened up about how tough it is to get movies financed when actors refuse to work for women. “Not only did he relish the opportunity to allow for the brilliant @florencepugh to hold center stage as our ‘Alice’, but he infused every scene with a nuanced sense of humanity,” she gushed on Instagram. Wilde added, “He didn’t have to join our circus, but he jumped on board with humility and grace, and blew us away every day with his talent, warmth, and ability to drive backwards.” A source previously advised People the couple is “very serious” and spending “all their time together,” but this is the closest either party has come to confirming their romance.
