Carol Kirkwood, who regularly delivers the weather forecast on BBC Breakfast, shared concerns over her garden plants and admitted she was unsure of what to do next. The meteorologist took to Twitter and opened up about her dilemma.

Taking to the micro-blogging site, the 58-year-old admitted her plants were growing like “triffids” – a highly venomous carnivorous plant often found in fictional books and films.

In view of her 203,000 followers, Carol explained that no rain was expected for the rest of the week, which spelled disaster for her.

She penned: “No significant rain in the forecast for the rest of this week. My poor plants are growing like the triffids in my kitchen… don’t want to put them out due to the frost (tempting as it is in the Spring sunshine!) @BBCBreakfast.”

Fans were quick to respond to the post, as people shared their issues.

One wrote: “Gardener’s dilemma: going away for a week today – do I leave the greenhouse door open to keep it cool in the day or closed to keep it warm at night!”

Carol replied: “Good luck with that one. It is a real conundrum.”

Another penned: “Mine plants are in the house at night and outside during the day.”

The Breakfast weather forecaster: “I’m impressed.”

A third commented: “Farmers are desperate for rain in the Scottish Borders.”

“It’s times like these I’m grateful for just a few balcony pots to water!” a fourth remarked.

It comes as Carol delivered her latest weather forecast on BBC Breakfast where she warned viewers of hot temperatures.

Friday is set to be the warmest of the week with highs of 19C before settling to an average temperature of 11C.

Delivering today’s forecast, Carol explained: “It is a cold start. There’s a widespread frost, some of us have higher temperatures than others at the moment.

“In Aberdeenshire, it’s -3C, Birmingham -1C so if you’re just heading out it is a nippy start to the day.

“But most of us will have sunshine today and it is also going to be mostly dry.”

She continued: “The highest temperatures today will be about 16C, maybe 18C out towards the west.

“Into this evening and overnight, under clear skies, it’s still going to be cold.”

Carol concluded: “As we head into the weekend, we remain with a lot of settled conditions.

“There will be a lot of sunshine around but by Sunday with temperatures slipping a little bit.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am.
