James Martin has opened up about the death of his good friend Sarah Harding, who died of breast cancer this weekend. The television chef penned an emotional farewell as he said he couldn’t wait to “see her again”.

News of Sarah’s death came yesterday in a statement from her mother on social media.

She confirmed the Girls Aloud singer had died of breast cancer, just over a year on from when she went public with her diagnosis.

In a powerful message, mum Marie said she was sharing the news with “deep heartbreak”.

She confirmed her daughter had “slipped away peacefully” on Saturday morning as she thanked people for their support.

Tributes have been pouring in following the announcement from fans, friends and family.

One star who was particularly close to Sarah was TV chef James.

The star of Saturday Morning on ITV took to social media to pay his respects.

He penned in view of his 708,000 followers: “Thank you for brightening my life.

“We laughed, we cried, we cooked together and Jesus we drank and I loved every moment.

“God bless you babe, can’t wait to see you again. RIP my friend.”

James previously sent Sarah a supportive message earlier this year.

This was after the singer had released a memoir about her experience with cancer called Hear Me Out.

The candid book featured insight into her diagnosis and how doctors had told her she would not see another Christmas.

Writing back in March, James reposted her announcement and sent a caring message.

He penned: “You keep fighting girl and there is always a cold bottle of fizz and me cooking whatever you want waiting for you here.”

James is one of many stars who have paid tribute following Sarah’s death.

The pop star’s bandmate Cheryl penned on Instagram: “Although we knew this day would arrive I am somehow still feeling at a loss for words that our stunning, unique, crazy, quirky, kind and soft hearted girl has departed.

“As I try to navigate my way through these painfully strange and horribly unfamiliar waves of disbelief & finality I am experiencing, I wanted to extend my condolences to all of our GA fans.

“We were like an extended family for so long and we know so many of you by name.”

Davina McCall also issued a statement as she called the news “so sad”.

She penned: “A star from the get go, hugely fun and outgoing yet also somehow fragile… love to her family and friends.”

Sarah’s ex-boyfriend Calum Best spoke of their “fun times and adventures”.

On Twitter, he wrote: “Jesus this one hits home, so damn sad, so young.

“I hope u rest In peace Sarah we had some crazy fun times and adventures.

“U will be so very missed. Sending so much love to ur mom.”(sic)

Spice Girl Geri Horner added: “Rest in peace, Sarah Harding.

“You’ll be remembered for the light and joy you brought to the world.”
