Kate wasn't interested in William because he was royal and married him ‘despite his position’ says school friend

KATE Middleton’s interest in Prince William had nothing to do with the fact he was royal, a friend has revealed.

Despite cruel accusations from the public, the Duchess of Cambridge’s Marlborough College pier said that she hated the idea of fame and just wanted to start a family.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, the pal said: “All Catherine ever wanted was a husband, a house in the country, loads of kids, a dog and a kitchen with an Aga.

“Becoming a member of the Royal Family, thrust into the limelight, is the last thing she would have wanted. But she fell in love with William, who just happened to be heir to the throne.

“She married William despite his position, not because of it.”

Both William and Kate, who are celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary this week, had taken gap years before finding themselves in the same halls of residence and studying Art History at St Andrews University in 2001 – although William later switched to a Geography degree.

It wasn't until Kate walked the runway in THAT see-through dress during a charity fashion show a year later that William reportedly started to see her in a romantic light.

As Kate was walking down the runway, the Prince allegedly turned to his friend Fergus Boyd and said: "Wow, Fergus, Kate's hot!"

During their engagement interview in 2009, Kate recalled feeling embarrassed the first time she met her future husband.

She said: "I actually went bright red when I met you and sort of scuttled off feeling very shy about meeting you.

"William wasn't there for quite a bit of the time initially, he wasn't there from Fresher's Week, so it did take a bit of time for us to get to know each other, but we did become very close friends from quite early on."
