Style is subjective, but according to one fashion influencer, there are some items that simply do not work for older women.
On Style With Serena, fashion enthusiast Serena shared the “fashion mistakes making you look old”, including the “novelty tops” to steer clear of.
She said: “If you want to age yourself 20 years, wear one of these – novelty tops.”
The influencer explained that by novelty tops she means ones with “words and birds and floral” – pieces that have a lot going on at once.
She suggested that tops with floral appliqué or appliqué animals also fall under this category, as do matching T-shirts and shirts worn together with the same design.
Serena advised: “Just don’t do that. There are so many options out there, you don’t have to go this route.”
But according to the style enthusiast, graphic sweatshirts and sweatshirts that honour your sports team are fine.
For those who do like “novelty” pieces, printed sweatshirts allow women to explore that without “ageing themselves”.

An anti-wrinkle moisturiser that is clinically proven to improve hydration, leaving skin looking and feeling firmer and more radiant.
Rather than wearing a jumper that boasts a large floral print, a quirky mantra and animal emblazoned on the front, ladies could opt for a subtle printed animal sweater.
Serena claimed that these are “much better, much more current and up-to-date looking and less ageing” than embroidered tops and matching sets.
The fashionista also suggested that women are ageing themselves unnecessarily by donning large floral prints and bright colours.
Despite being a “mood boost”, Serena claimed that large, colourful floral prints can have a “very ageing effect”.
She argued that the larger the print and higher the contrast in colours “the worse that is”.
According to the expert, muted florals or smaller prints are a better option than “bright, tropical, Hawaiian prints” for the ultimate anti-ager.
